Top US diplomat to visit India to discuss foreign affairs

A top US diplomat will arrive in New Delhi to discuss matters related to the Foreign Office with her Indian counterpart. This information has been given in a statement issued by the US State Department on Saturday. According to the statement, Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland’s visit to India follows the visit of Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu to New Delhi earlier this month.

The statement said that Nuland’s visit to India is part of her four-nation tour to be held from January 28 to February 3, under which she will also visit Nepal, Sri Lanka and Qatar. It said Nuland will be in Kathmandu to discuss a broader agenda of the US partnership with Nepal with the new government there. According to the statement, “On her visit to India, Nuland will participate in the annual US-India Foreign Office consultations, which will discuss a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues. She will also meet top young executives from the tech world.

Nuland, who is arriving in Colombo to mark the 75th anniversary of US-Sri Lankan relations, will reiterate the US’ continued support for efforts to revive the island nation’s economy and protect human rights, the statement said. In Qatar, Nuland will discuss global issues under the framework of the US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue, according to the statement. It added that Nuland will also discuss bilateral arrangements between the two countries regarding Qatar’s significant support for the resettlement of US ally Afghan nationals and the protection of US interests in Kabul.
