TRAI: One phone call and your lifetime earnings will be lost, TRAI cautions customers, know the whole thing

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) warned people against fraudulent calls and termed such calls as illegal. Such callers, falsely claiming to be from TRAI, warn of disconnecting the number. TRAI said that it neither ‘blocks’ nor disables any mobile number of any individual telecom customer. Any such call or message claiming to be from TRAI should be considered as fraudulent.
The telecom regulator said in a statement that it has been brought to the notice of TRAI that some companies/agencies/individuals are calling customers and saying that they are calling from TRAI. They say that the mobile numbers of the customers will be disconnected as these numbers are being used to send unwanted messages.
TRAI said companies, agencies and individuals involved in such activities also mislead customers by claiming that their Aadhaar number was used to obtain a SIM card and it is being used for illegal activities. . They are also trying to mislead customers/public into coming on Skype video call to avoid mobile number disconnection.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has said in its statement that people are informed that TRAI does not ‘block’ or stop the mobile numbers of telecom customers. TRAI never sends any message or calls to block the mobile number.
TRAI also clarified that it has not authorized any agency to contact customers for such activities. All such calls are illegal and should be dealt with as per law. As per TRAI’s Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR) 2018, call access service providers are responsible for taking appropriate action against mobile numbers involved in sending unwanted messages.
TRAI said that affected individuals can directly contact their service provider’s customer care center or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. They can raise the issue at or they can call cyber crime helpline number 1930.
