New York (Best Hindu News): A passenger train derailed in New York City, injuring at least 13 people. The officers provided this information.
The Long Island Rail Road train was headed toward Hempstead when it derailed near the Jamaica Station at 175th Street and 95th Avenue in the city’s Queens borough at about 11:12 a.m. Thursday, according to a Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) official. .
All eight coaches of the train were derailed, Xinhua news agency quoted MTA President and CEO Janno Leiber as saying at a press conference in the evening.
The injured have suffered leg and back injuries, though none are serious.
Video footage showed firefighters at the scene transferring passengers from the derailed train to the rescue train, which had a small platform connecting the two.
“Our top priority is to ensure that all passengers and train workers are safe and that train service resumes as soon as possible,” New York Governor Cathy Hochul said in a statement.
The reason for the derailment of the train was not immediately known.
MTA officials said service disruptions were likely to continue through Friday morning.
