Greensboro. Former US President Donald Trump on Saturday termed as “ridiculous” and “baseless” the federal charges against him in the case of possession of classified documents. Trump appeared in public for the first time after the indictment against him became public in this case. He termed the 37 charges against him as an attack on his supporters and tried to take political advantage of the incident. Addressing Republican conventions in Georgia and North Carolina, Trump called the Justice Department’s allegations an attempt to damage his chances of returning as president.
Trump told a crowd of his supporters, “They are trying to attack me by targeting me in one case after another. By doing this they want to stop our campaign. After all they are not coming after me. They’re after you.” Trump vowed that he would remain in the presidential race despite the indictment. The former president insisted he had done nothing wrong. The indictment related to allegations that classified documents were found at Trump’s residence was made public on Friday. The case relates to the recovery of hundreds of classified documents from the Mar-a-Lago residence of Trump in Florida.
