Washington: Former US President Donald Trump’s Instagram and Facebook accounts have been restored after two years of suspension. It was suspended on January 06, 2021 after the violence in Capitol Hill, US. CNN gave this information on Friday.
CNN said in its report that Trump can now post on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, although he has not posted anything yet. According to the report, Meta, the company that owns both platforms, said that it found that Trump’s online activities posed too little a risk to public safety, so it decided to lift the ban on his account.
The company, however, said in a statement that if Trump repeats his offense, he will face tougher penalties and could be suspended from Facebook for one month to two years, depending on the severity of the violation. Facebook suspended Trump’s account following the January 06, 2021 incidents on Capitol Hill, when some of his supporters entered the building and created a ruckus in protest of his calling the results of the 2020 presidential election fraudulent.
