Turkey : Earthquake shakes world Warsaw site in Turkestan, ‘Gaziantep’ castle collapses

Pudhari Online: In the center of Turkestan, Gaziantep, a historic fort that was hit by a powerful earthquake and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located. Or local media has given the information about major damage to the architecture.
According to the Turkestan Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 Richter occurred today (Dec. 6) at 4 pm at 17 minutes local time. Or powerful earthquakes hit Turkestan along with Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Cyprus, Greece, Jordan, Georgia and Armenia.
Due to the earthquake, the Gaziantep fort and the surrounding structures have suffered major damages. The historic mosque adjacent to the fort, the dome and the eastern wall have collapsed to some extent.
Some bastions in the east, south and southeast of the historical Gaziantep fortress have been destroyed by the earthquake. The Lokhandi railings around Killy are scattered and the footpaths nearby. The retaining wall surrounding the fort has also collapsed. Turkestan’s official circle has given the information that some old people have fled on a large scale.
According to the Archaeological Excavation Department here, Gaziantep Fort is Killevja Wada. The watchtower would have been built here for the first time in the II-IV centuries of Roman times. After that, the development and expansion of the place took place over time. According to the official site of the museums and archaeological sites here, there has been a great development during the time of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I.
