Kyiv (Uttam Hindu News): Ukraine has claimed to have destroyed a Russian spy plane over the Sea of Azov.
Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Valery Zaluzny, said earlier on Monday on Telegram that two aircraft had been destroyed. “The Ukrainian Air Force has destroyed an A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft and an Il-22 air control center,” he wrote.
He thanked the Air Force for the perfectly planned and executed operation in southern Ukraine.
In a statement, the Ukrainian Air Force described the special operation in the Sea of Azov region as “successful.”
Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat later said in a post on Facebook that one of the Russian planes targeted had already landed.
“The A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft was and is a priority target for us. Till today, destroying this aircraft seemed an impossible task for the Air Force.”
According to CNN report, information about two Russian military aircraft being shot down by the Ukrainian military over the Sea of Azov surfaced on social media late Sunday night.
Russia has not commented on the development.
The Sea of Azov, north of the occupied Crimean peninsula, separates Ukraine and Russia on the northeast of the Black Sea.
