Ukraine’s big claim, Russian naval ship destroyed in Crimea air strike

A Ukrainian attack on the Crimean port of Feodosia damaged a large Russian landing ship and killed one person, Moscow said on Tuesday, as Kiev said it had destroyed a vital Russian warship. Interfax news agency quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying that Ukraine had used air-launched missiles to attack Feodosia and that the Novocherkassk large landing ship was damaged in the attack.

The ‘Novocherkassk’ was built in Poland and came into service in the late 1980s, is designed for amphibious landings and can carry a variety of armored vehicles, including tanks. Footage purportedly from the port posted to several Russian news outlets on the messaging app Telegram showed powerful explosions and burning fires. Sergei Aksyonov, Russia-installed governor of Crimea, said on Telegram that one person was killed, two were injured and six were evacuated from their homes.

Although the Ukrainian counteroffensive achieved little success in gaining ground on the battlefield and Russian forces regained the initiative in several locations, Ukraine was able to launch a series of attacks on the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Crimea. Due to which serious damage has been caused. The Ukrainian Air Force said its pilots had attacked Feodosia at about 02.30 (00.30 GMT) with cruise missiles, destroying ‘Novocherkassk’.
