UN experts criticize Pakistan over safety of minority women
[ad_1]
UN experts criticized Pakistan for not providing adequate protection to Hindu and Christian women. Expressing disappointment over the lack of protection for minority communities in Pakistan, especially young women and girls belonging to the Christian and Hindu communities, experts have said the country needs to fulfill its obligations under relevant international treaties.
“Christian and Hindu girls face forced conversion, abduction, trafficking, child marriage, forced marriage, domestic servitude and sexual violence,” the experts said.
The statement by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights quoted experts as saying that such treatment of women and girls belonging to religious minority communities cannot be justified. Experts said Pakistan needs to maintain its obligations as per treaties and stop incidents of forced religious conversion.
