New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved ‘India AI Mission’ for 5 years with an outlay of Rs 10,372 crore. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal gave this information after the Union Cabinet meeting held on Thursday. He said that this amount will be used for the creation of large computing infrastructure. Goyal told reporters that supercomputing capacity with more than 10,000 GPUs (graphics processing units) will be made available to various stakeholders to create AI environments.

Goyal said startups, academia, researchers and industry will be provided access to the AI ​​supercomputing infrastructure set up under the Bharat AI (Artificial Intelligence) Mission. Under the mission, a National Data Management Officer will be appointed who will coordinate with various government departments and ministries to improve the quality of data and make them available for AI development and use. At the same time, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) extended the subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder to poor women under the Ujjwala scheme from April 1 till the next financial year.

In October last year, the subsidy on 14.2 kg cylinder was increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per cylinder till filling of 12 LPG cylinders per year. The subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder was for the current financial year, which ends on March 31. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has now decided to extend this subsidy till 2024-25. This move is expected to benefit about 10 crore families. This will cost Rs 12,000 crore.

Center increased dearness allowance of its employees to 50 percent
The Center has announced to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) of its employees from the current 46 percent to 50 percent of the basic pay from January 1 this year. More than one crore employees and pensioners will benefit from this announcement made before the general elections. Both dearness allowance and dearness relief will put a combined burden of Rs 12,869 crore on the government exchequer annually. The total impact during the year 2024-25 (January 2024 to February 2025) will be Rs 15,014 crore.

Along with the increase in DA, other allowances including transport allowance, canteen allowance and deputation allowance have been increased by 25 percent. House rent allowance has been increased from 27 percent, 19 percent and 9 percent of basic pay to 30 percent, 20 percent and 10 percent respectively. There has been an increase of 25 percent in benefits under gratuity. Under this, the limit has been increased from the existing Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. The increase in these various allowances will put an annual burden of Rs 9,400 crore on the government exchequer.
