United Nations. The United Nations has put the name of Abdul Rehman Makki, deputy chief of Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, on its blacklist of global terrorists. The Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council on Monday added Makki’s name to its sanctions list. There is a provision to confiscate the property of the people included in this list, to impose travel and arms restrictions on them.
In June last year, China blocked at the last minute a joint proposal by India and the US to designate Makki as a global terrorist under the 1267 Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council. The US has already declared Makki a terrorist. He is a relative of Hafiz Saeed, the leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba and the main conspirator of 26/11 Mumbai attack.
