National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dilip Asbe on Tuesday said that India has the potential to handle more than 100 billion transactions through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). . This will be 10 times the current monthly transactions through UPI in the country.
Addressing the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2023 event here on Tuesday, Dilip Asbe said that India has the potential to handle over 100 billion transactions through UPI. He said that currently 35 crore people within the country use UPI. There is scope for three times increase in their present number.
He said that if you take the cumulative effect of this, we can reach 10 times the transaction from the current situation. Although Dilip Asbe did not mention any time frame to achieve this target, he said that India will see two billion transactions per day through UPI by 2030. It is noteworthy that since the launch of UPI as a unified payment platform in the year 2016, the number of transactions done through it has crossed 10 billion in the month of August.
