US Capitol reverberated with Vedic chants ahead of PM Modi’s visit, Bhagavad Gita was also mentioned

America’s first Hindu-American conference took place in the US Capitol Hill, the center of America’s power. The conference took place on June 14, the purpose of which was to draw the attention of American law makers towards the problems of the Hindu community living in America. This conference was named American for Hindu. Dr. Romesh Japra, founder and president of American for Hindus, said that for the first time a Hindu-American summit was held at the US Capitol Hill. This is the first ever summit that we are organizing for political engagement. We have done very well in every field but politically we are far behind. We feel that Hindu Americans are being discriminated against. So we thought it is a good idea to bring all the organizations together.

What is the purpose of organizing Hindu Sammelan?

Romesh Japra, the founder and president of this Hindu conference, told that this conference is happening for the first time. Hindu American Conference is being organized for political participation. Our community is active in cultural, social, economic, religious and all other fields, but we are far behind in politics. The American for Hindu conference is organized by the American for Hindu Political Action Committee along with 20 other diasporas. About 130 Indian American leaders from cities like Florida, New York, Boston, Texas, Chicago, California etc. were said to participate in this conference.

Japra said that he is very excited about the upcoming US visit of PM Modi. He has the power to put India on the world map. He is capable of a lot and we get inspired by him.

Beginning with Vedic chants and prayers

The special feature of the program was that it started with Vedic chanting and prayer. The Hindu American conference was organized to draw the attention of American law makers towards the problems of the Hindu community living in America. Speaking at the event, US Congressman Richard McCormick said that American Hindus have the power to choose the next president. He said that I am not just saying this, but I feel that you people have that ability.
