US-China officials met in Bangkok for more than 12 hours, White House informed

Washington. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi held meetings for more than 12 hours in Bangkok. The White House, the official residence and office of the US President, gave this information on Monday. “Over the weekend, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held more than 12 hours of meetings in Bangkok with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi,” John Kirby, the NSC (National Security Council) coordinator for strategic communications at the White House, told reporters. ”
“Sullivan and Wang took stock of progress on key issues following the meeting between (US) President (Joe) Biden and (China’s) President Xi (Cinfing) in November,” Kirby said. It also discussed efforts to restart military-to-military communications, deal with security issues and risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI), and advance bilateral counter-narcotics cooperation.” The working group will begin in Beijing on Tuesday. The US delegation will be led by Deputy Homeland Security Advisor Jane Daskal.
Kirby said, “The two sides also had constructive discussions on global and regional issues, including issues related to Russia’s war against Ukraine, West Asia, the Republic of Korea, the South China Sea and Burma (Myanmar).” In a separate news conference with Antony Blinken, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the US and other allies engaging in dialogue with China on issues of mutual concern such as climate change and arms control.
