Washington: The MQ-9B drone deal which was stuck between the US and India for the last several days can now reach its destination. If a report in Wall Street General is to be believed, then India has moved a step ahead towards finalizing the deal for this dangerous drone. This drone will be able to further strengthen India’s security on the border of China and Pakistan in the Himalayan region. Along with this, it will also strengthen the security cordon against China in the Indian Ocean. Many defense experts attribute this drone deal to India’s more aggressive attitude against China.

most advanced drone
The MQ-9B drone is considered to be the most advanced drone in the world. This drone is equipped with anti-submarine warfare capability. Along with this, apart from attacking the ground, it can also target anti-ship missiles. With its arrival, the strength of the Indian Navy will increase manifold. Its surveillance capability will increase in the Indian Ocean. This is the area where China is currently engaged in increasing its naval presence. The Government of India can take a decision regarding the purchase soon. If this deal becomes final, it will be a milestone in the relations between India and America. If sources are to be believed, this deal may be approved in the next few weeks.

India will get the latest version
If India signs a deal for the purchase, then it will have to wait for US approval. After this, an agreement will be signed between the governments of the two countries. However, it may take a few months now. Such an agreement would make India the first country in the world to buy the latest version of this drone despite not being a treaty ally of the US. According to Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Marty Meiners, the Defense Department does not comment on upcoming foreign military deals.

Right now the forces have two drones
Currently, Indian forces have two MQ-9B drones. These drones are basic version drones and were taken on lease from the US in the year 2020 when the conflict with China was going on in eastern Ladakh. It was because of this drone that India got information about the Chinese forces and their infrastructure deployment. Along with this, these drones also contributed in making India’s plan successful under which it had prepared to respond to China. These drones have 10,000 hours of flight experience in the last two years. Apart from the Gulf of Aden, these drones have also made successful flights over the South China Sea.

how to get approval

India had previously planned to buy 30 drones at a cost of around $3 billion. After this again the number has been increased from 18 to 24. The number of drones was reduced recently following a panel discussion by representatives of the three services. At present, the approval of two government committees is yet to be received for the purchase. While Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is the head of one committee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself leads the other committee. The MQ-9B Predator drone is manufactured by San Diego-based General Atomics. This is the first largest military sale to India since 2020. At that time India had purchased two registered Sikorsky MH-60 helicopters manufactured by Lockheed Martin. The deal was worth around $2.6 billion.

Security relations will be stronger

After this deal, security relations with America will deepen further. In 2008, defense relations between the US and India were non-existent. According to the Pentagon, in the year 2020, this figure had increased to $ 20 billion. Both the countries have signed such deals in the last decade, after which the armies of America and India will be able to use each other’s military bases. These military bases are being used for re-fuelling.
