SpaceX has fired employees who criticized company CEO Elon Musk. According to a report, a complaint has been filed against the company. The National Labor Relations Board has accused SpaceX of illegally firing eight employees for circulating a letter that founder and CEO Elon Musk described as distracting and embarrassing, according to a Reuters report. The agency complained that SpaceX violated workers’ rights under federal labor law to organize and advocate for better working conditions.
When the concerned employees sent a letter to SpaceX officials. The staff cited several tweets posted by Musk and said they were sexually suggestive. Employees felt that Musk’s statements were not in line with SpaceX’s policies on workplace conduct and wanted the company to censure them.
The NLRB alleges in its complaint that after the letter was sent, SpaceX executives interrogated and humiliated him over the actions. Furthermore, other works were also threatening dismissal if they indulged in similar activities. According to the report, SpaceX has a chance to settle the matter. However, if this does not resolve the matter then an administrative judge will hear the case. The judge’s decision can be appealed to the board and then to the federal appeals court. The first hearing is scheduled for March 5 and it looks like the employees may have to struggle for a long time if the company does not reach a settlement. Additionally, if the NLRB finds that SpaceX violated labor law, the agency could order the employees to be reinstated with back pay. Additionally, SpaceX may be liable for stiffer penalties in future cases.
