Trump last week reposted a post by news website ‘The Gateway Pundit’ which claimed that Haley is ineligible to run for US President or Vice President because her parents were not US citizens at the time of her birth in 1972. .
Indian-American Haley became an American citizen by birth in this country. “It’s no surprise that Donald Trump has returned with more false and racist ‘birther’ claims…,” Democratic Congressman Krishnamurthy said in a statement Thursday.
He said, “As a proud Indian American immigrant, I fully understand the hateful attacks former President Trump is making against Nikki Haley. Every Republican who claims to support the South Asian community should condemn this comment.
According to the US Constitution, to contest the presidential election, a candidate must be at least 35 years of age, must be a “natural born” citizen and must have resided in the US for 14 years.,
