Rabbi Abraham Cooper told US lawmakers that India has done well in the past and needs to mend its ways as things are getting worse. This is very scary. He said, ‘Religious discrimination should not be a matter of national pride.’ The US commission has recommended that India, Afghanistan, Syria, Nigeria and Vietnam should be put on the US government’s list of countries of particular concern. He said that the situation of religious freedom in these countries is getting worse.
PM Modi gave a befitting reply in America
The US commission has called for economic and travel sanctions targeting agencies and officials of the Indian government, reports the Voice of America. He claimed that these officials and agencies are involved in the violation of religious freedom. The US Commission has given this threat at a time when just a few days back PM Modi had visited the White House in Washington and also addressed the US Parliament.
Earlier in the year 2005, the US State Department had canceled PM Modi’s tourist and business visa regarding the Gujarat riots. Cooper said, ‘So we are now hoping that the Indian Prime Minister’s visit has happened and now there will be a serious review.’ Earlier on the US tour, when PM Modi was questioned about discrimination against Muslims. On this, PM Modi had stopped everyone’s speech by giving a befitting reply. He made it clear that India is ruled by the Constitution and there is no place for any kind of discrimination. Last year, the US government did not include India in the list of countries of particular concern. That too when USCIRF recommended to do so.
