Farmers will also be able to get decent prices for vegetables.
Bihar ranks fourth in the country in terms of production of vegetables.
According to the report of the Cooperative Department, a total of about 200 million tonnes of vegetables are cultivated in the country. Bihar has a total share of nine percent in this. About 18 million tonnes of vegetables are being cultivated in Bihar. Bihar ranks second in vegetable production after Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. According to the report of the department, about 30 to 40 percent of the vegetables in the state go waste.
Demand for vegetables from the plains of river Ganga
There is high demand for vegetables grown in the plains of river Ganga. There is demand for vegetables from these areas in the state as well as in other states. To ensure that vegetables do not get wasted, small warehouses are being constructed.
Bihar’s vegetables will also reach the country’s markets
Along with traditional farming, farmers also cultivate horticulture crops on a large scale in Bihar. This is the reason why Bihar is the number one state in the country in the production of Shahi Leeli, Makhana and Ladyfinger. Till now the green vegetables grown by the farmers here were supplied only to other states, but now people from abroad will also eat vegetables from Bihar. Meeting with Indian Ambassador to Nepal
According to media reports, recently Tirhut and Mithila Vegetable Vendors Association has held a meeting with the Indian Ambassador to Nepal regarding vegetable supply. It is being said that if everything remains favourable, the supply of green vegetables from Bihar will start in Nepal soon.
Bihar produces bumper production of these vegetables
In Bihar, farmers cultivate potato, brinjal, cabbage, capsicum, mushroom, radish, carrot, tomato, bottle gourd, ladyfinger and parwal on a large scale. Bihar government is also giving subsidy to increase the area of horticulture in the state. Till three years ago, Bihar alone used to produce 166-3 lakh tonnes of vegetables, but now an increase has been recorded. Now the figure of vegetable production in Bihar has crossed 179.5 lakh tonnes. At the same time, the area under vegetables in Bihar has increased from 8.75 lakh hectares to 9.15 lakh hectares.
Potato cultivation is highest in Nalanda, Patna and Samastipur districts.
The special thing is that the maximum production of potatoes is in Bihar. Potato is cultivated the most in Nalanda, Patna and Samastipur districts. However, farmers are now taking interest in onion cultivation also. At the same time, now farmers are also cultivating green vegetables through green house technology. Due to this, green vegetables like cabbage and tomato are available to the customers in the market during any season in the state.
