Vice President Dhankhar meets British King Charles III ahead of coronation ceremony

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar arrived in London on Friday to attend the formal coronation ceremony of Britain’s new King Charles III. He met with Charles III before the coronation ceremony. The coronation ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday. His wife Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar has also come along with Dhankhar. About 100 heads of state or government are expected to attend the historic coronation of Britain’s new monarch. The Vice President’s Office tweeted, “The Honorable Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar and Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar arrive in London to attend the Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty King Charles III.”
Another tweet said, “Hon’ble Vice President Shri Jagdeep interacted with King Charles III during the reception hosted by him for Commonwealth leaders at Marlborough House, London.” Leaders of the Commonwealth participated in a discussion at Marlborough House, hosted by Commonwealth Minister Baroness Patricia Scotland. The Vice President has also been invited to a reception hosted by Buckingham Palace for various heads of state, leaders and other officials on Friday evening, which will be hosted by His Majesty Charles III himself.
Dhankhar will interact with members of the Indian community at a reception hosted by the Indian High Commission on Friday evening. The Ministry of External Affairs said, “India and Britain have historical ties and both countries share many values including democracy, rule of law.” In the context of the Vice President’s two-day visit to Britain, the ministry said, Under the draft 2030 adopted on relations, the relationship between the two countries has reached the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the year 2021.
It may be noted that the Head of State of India, President Draupadi Murmu had visited Britain in September last year and had expressed condolences on behalf of India by attending the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace said more than 2,200 people would attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles and his wife Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey. It will be attended by heads of state from around 100 countries, members of royal families and international representatives from 203 countries, community and charitable dignitaries.
