China’s space station is at an orbital altitude of 450 km (280 miles) and can currently house a maximum of three astronauts. Currently, China’s space station is only 40 percent bigger than the ISS because the NASA-led International Space Station can handle seven astronauts simultaneously, while China’s station can handle only three astronauts simultaneously. That is why China has now planned to expand its space station to six modules.
