Wagner chief said: Maybe Russia shot down its own plane

The head of Russia’s Wagner private army said on Sunday that four Russian military planes that reportedly crashed near the Ukraine border may have been shot down by Russia’s own forces. Russian officials have not commented on reports in traditional and social media that two Sukhoi jets and two military Mi-8 helicopters crashed in the Bryansk region on Saturday. State news agency Tass quoted unnamed emergency service sources as saying that the Sukhoi 34 and a helicopter had gone down.

Other sources, including Vladimir Rogov, the head of a Russian syncretist organization in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya province, claimed that four planes had gone down. All of them belonged to the same group of the army. Cross-border shelling occurred repeatedly in the Bryansk region during the war. The region is adjacent to the Chernihiv and Sumy provinces of Ukraine. Authorities there have claimed that two freight trains were derailed by the blasts and that in March an armed group from Ukraine entered the region and killed two civilians. Ukraine’s air force spokesman Yuri Ihnat said on Sunday that Ukraine was not involved in the downing of the planes.
