Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was “excellent” and during which the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two countries. Modi reached Doha on Wednesday after a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates. This is the Prime Minister’s second visit to Qatar, before which he had visited Qatar in June 2016. After the meeting, PM Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ that the meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was wonderful. Our conversation focused on ways to enhance friendship between India and Qatar.
Earlier, the External Affairs Ministry had said that there was a “meaningful” conversation between the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of Qatar. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on ‘X’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a constructive meeting with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha. There was discussion on increasing bilateral cooperation in areas like trade and investment, energy, finance. Foreign Minister Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the airport. Qatar’s Prime Minister hosted a dinner in Modi’s honor which the Prime Minister attended.
Meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani
The ministry said in a statement that Prime Minister Modi will meet Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday and will hold talks on bilateral and regional and global issues. After reaching Doha, Modi posted that he was looking forward to a fruitful visit that would deepen bilateral relations. Modi wrote on ‘X’, reached Doha… I am hopeful of a fruitful visit to Qatar which will further deepen the India-Qatar friendship. He also expressed his gratitude for the “extraordinary” welcome given to NRIs in Doha.
Modi reaches Doha after two-day visit to UAE
PM Modi said in ‘X’- Exceptional welcome in Doha! I am grateful to the NRIs.” The Prime Minister also shared some pictures in which excited NRIs can be seen welcoming Madi on his arrival. Modi arrived in Doha after a two-day visit to the UAE where he addressed the ‘World Government Summit’, an event of the Indian diaspora and also inaugurated the UAE’s first Hindu temple.
