New Delhi: The government is still waiting for a clear response from the company on the hacking alert sent by iPhone manufacturer Apple to opposition party leaders five months ago. In this message, Apple had warned opposition leaders that allegedly government-backed hackers were trying to hack their phones. On this, some clarification was sought from Apple by the government.
Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that the government has asked two questions to Apple. The first question is related to the security of their equipment while the second question is related to the reason for sending alerts to the opposition members. Chandrashekhar said, in my opinion this is not something which any platform will completely accept even if there are weaknesses. There is a tendency for any platform to deny that their security shields can be breached. Chandrashekhar said, we are asking a clear question to the company that is your phone insecure? The answer to this is not entirely clear.
In October, several leaders of opposition parties claimed that they had received an alert from Apple warning of an attempt by state-sponsored attackers to remotely control their iPhones and alleged hacking by the government. Meanwhile, Chandrashekhar rejected allegations that the government was in any way trying to violate people’s privacy or eliminate freedom of speech and expression.
