Amul hiked Rs 3 a liter

Milk prices hiked for the fifth time in a year

Indian family spends 20 percent on milk

According to a figure, an average Indian in India spends about 20 per cent of the total expenditure on food in a month on milk. According to the 68th round (2011-12) of the National Sample Survey (NSA), Indians in rural areas spend Rs 116 a month on milk and milk products. This cost is more in cities. In cities, out of Rs 923 spent on food in a month, people spend Rs 187 on milk.
