Will PM Modi intervene on Rahul Gandhi’s Parliament membership issue? Big statement from American MP

While the atmosphere is heating up in the country regarding the action against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, its fragrance is now being seen outside India as well. Indian-American MP Ro Khanna has said that this action is unfair. Khanna said that canceling Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership is a big betrayal of Gandhian ideology. This action has been taken against Rahul Gandhi because of his remarks about Modi’s surname. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign, Rahul Gandhi asked the question ‘How come all thieves have Modi as their surname?’ While hearing the case filed against Rahul in this case, the Surat court found him guilty and sentenced him to two years imprisonment. Along with this, his membership of Parliament has also been cancelled.

Ro Khanna tweeted that the cancellation of Rahul Gandhi’s membership in Parliament is a betrayal of Gandhian ideology and India’s values. This is not the India for which my grandfather spent many years of his life in jail. Ro Khanna represents Silicon Valley in the US House of Representatives.

Demand for intervention from Modi

Khanna has sought Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the matter. In another tweet, Ro Khanna tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, “You have the power to change this decision in the interest of Indian democracy.” At the same time, George Abraham, vice-president of the Indian Overseas Congress in the US, termed Rahul’s disqualification as a sad day for democracy in India.
