Srinagar : Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday after taking stock of the ongoing work on the Zojila tunnel that tourism in Kashmir would increase two to three times with the construction of this tunnel. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited Zojila to inspect the construction work of the tunnel. On this occasion, Nitin Gadkari said that with the construction of this tunnel, along with the development of tourism in Kashmir, employment opportunities will also increase. He said that only then we will be able to establish connectivity from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari in true sense.
19 tunnels being built in Jammu and Kashmir
In one of his tweets, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that 19 tunnels are being constructed in Jammu and Kashmir at a cost of about Rs 25,000 crore. He said that under this, construction of about 1.14 kilometer long government and approach road is going on in Zojila at a cost of Rs 6800 crore. In addition, a horseshoe-shaped single tube two-lane tunnel is also being built, which will pass through the Zojila Pass in the Himalayas, passing through Ganderbal in Kashmir and the Drass sector of Kargil district in Ladakh.
Ladakh will be able to go in every season
He said that in this project, a smart tunnel is being built with the Austrian tunneling method, which will include facilities like CCTV, radio control, uninterrupted power supply and ventilation. He said that with the construction of this tunnel, it will be easy to travel to Ladakh in all seasons. He also said that at present it takes at least three hours to cross the Zojila pass. After the completion of this tunnel, this time will be reduced to only 20 minutes. That means you will cross Zojila pass in full 20 minutes.
The area of Zojila Pass is very remote
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a target has been set for the all-round development of Jammu and Kashmir through better roads. He said that the area near Zojila Pass is extremely inaccessible and many accidents happen here every year. Accidents will reduce after the completion of Zojila Tunnel. This tunnel will make travel between Kashmir Valley and Ladakh easier throughout the year.
