According to videos shown in official media, Xi addressed the troops, saying how “in recent years, the region is constantly changing” and how this has affected the military. One of the soldiers replied that they were now monitoring the border “24 hours a day”, according to the report. Xi questioned their status as well as whether they were getting fresh vegetables in the difficult terrain.
According to official media, Xi questioned the troops “about their border patrolling and management work”. He appreciated the soldiers and encouraged them to continue their efforts. The standoff between India and China started after a violent clash on May 5, 2020, in the Pangong lake area in eastern Ladakh.
There have been 17 rounds of high-level military talks between the two sides regarding the border standoff in eastern Ladakh, but there has been no significant progress in resolving the remaining issues. India has stressed that peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations with China.
