South Africa’s Ramaphosa said all five leaders supported the idea of expanding the grouping. “We stand at an important juncture of expansion of the BRICS family, for it is through expansion that we will be able to make BRICS stronger in these turbulent times,” Ramaphosa said. More countries have applied. The grouping was formed in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India and China and in 2010 South Africa was included. Saudi Arabia is one of the countries seeking BRICS membership, which has increased its chances of moving a little closer to China and Russia.
