Prices increased due to less crop

Let us tell you that Rajesh Naik, a mango wholesaler from Madgaon in South Goa, while talking to IANS, said that the prices have increased due to less crop. “The price of a mango is decided according to its size. At present, the price of large size mankurado is around Rs 6,000 per dozen and the price of small size is Rs 4,800,” said Naik. He said that vendors from all over the state come to Margao market to buy at wholesale rates and then sell in their areas. According to him, this market opens at 3 am and closes soon after the vendors leave.

Sales are being affected due to high prices

Elaborating further, he said, “Currently the harvesting of mankurado mangoes is low, but by April we can get in large quantities. Mango farmers from many regions of the state come to Margao to sell mankurados. Due to the high rate of mankurado, people are buying less, he said, adding, “They don’t buy a dozen mangoes because of the high cost. Many of them buy two or four mangoes. Presently the supply is short so the rate is expensive.”

To recall some political memory about this mango, last year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took a dig at Maharashtra’s summer pride, the Alphonso mango, insisting that a native variety from Goa, the Mancurado mango, tasted better than its counterpart. Is. Speaking at an agriculture conference near Panaji, Sawant had also said that the Goa government is making efforts to get GI (Geographical Indication) tagging for the mango variety, which is unique to Goa. Sawant further said, “We all say that Alphonso mango is popular, but I can definitely say that Mankurado mango is tastier. I can say this with great pride.” Goa has been waiting for the GI tag for Mankurado mangoes for the last two years since the proposal was submitted in 2020.
