Islamabad: Controversial Pakistani presenter and YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan, who was missing since the anti-government protests on May 9 following the arrest of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has returned home safely. Police gave this information on Monday. Riyaz Khan (47) has more than 30 lakh followers on YouTube. He was reportedly arrested two days after violent protests broke out across the country following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on corruption charges on May 9.
Riyaz Khan is considered a big supporter of the former prime minister and has strongly condemned the establishment after the ouster of Imran Khan in April last year. After his arrest, he was last reported to have been taken to Lahore Cantonment Police Station and later to Sialkot Jail in Punjab province. A law officer had told the Lahore High Court (LHC) on May 15 that Riyaz Khan was released from jail after taking a written affidavit.
However, without giving any details, the police of Sialkot in Punjab province said on Monday that Riyaz Khan has returned home safely. “Journalist/presenter Imran Riaz Khan has been located and is safe,” Sialkot Police wrote on social media platform ‘X’. He is now with his family.” Riyaz Khan’s lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq has also confirmed Riyaz Khan’s return home.
He said it took a long time due to “many difficulties, weak judiciary, existing ineffective constitution and legal helplessness”. The Lahore High Court was hearing the case of alleged kidnapping of Riyaz Khan and on September 20, it had ordered the Punjab Police to trace the YouTuber, giving it a last chance. It is not yet clear where he was kept during that time.
