According to Zelensky, Ukrainian intelligence reports suggested that the Kremlin solicited support for Prigozhin. Claiming that half of the country supported the private mercenary army.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described Vladimir Putin’s response to the Wagner Group uprising as ‘weak’. He said that the Russian President is losing control over his own people. The Ukrainian military, led by Zelensky, has been resisting the Russian offensive for more than a year. He told CNN in an interview that Putin does not control the situation in those areas because Wagner has moved deep into Russia. He remarked that the ‘pinnacle of power’ held by the Russian leader was crumbling. During the 24-hour uprising, social media was filled with videos of Russian crowds cheering for Wagner’s insurgents. In a video verified by CNN, crowds cheered Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin’s vehicle as it departed Rostov-on-Don on June 24.
According to Zelensky, Ukrainian intelligence reports suggested that the Kremlin solicited support for Prigozhin. Claiming that half of the country supported the private mercenary army. Moscow was able to avoid a major embarrassment as Prigozhin stopped the rebellion just a hundred kilometers from the Russian capital. In a video message posted a few days after the uprising, Wagner Boss made it clear that the rebels did not seek to overthrow the Russian leadership.
The Wagner rebellion has raised questions about Putin’s leadership and his control over the state of affairs in Russia. On Monday, the Kremlin said all government agencies, including the intelligence services, were working as they should. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment when asked why the top intelligence agency had not led the insurgency before it began.
