President Volodymyr Zelensky fired Ukraine’s ambassador to Britain, Vadim Prystaiko, on Friday, days after the envoy publicly criticized the president. A presidential decree stated that Prystaiko was also removed as Ukraine’s representative to the International Maritime Organization. He did not give any reason for the dismissal. In an interview with Sky News last week, Pristiko was asked about comments by outgoing British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace suggesting Kiev should be more grateful for arms supplies from its allies to fight Russia’s occupation forces.
Zelensky responded by saying that Ukraine is always grateful to its staunchest ally Britain. British media also quoted him as saying that Wallace could tell him how to express his gratitude or “how we can wake up in the morning and express our words of gratitude to the minister”.
Zelensky’s order did not specify who would replace Prystaiko, a 53-year-old veteran diplomat and former deputy prime minister who held the position as ambassador to Britain for three years.
