Kiev: Two Russian missiles struck the center of the city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region on Monday evening, killing five people and injuring more than two dozen. Ukrainian officials gave this information. Officials said the attacks were carried out in part of Russia’s occupied territory, which is still occupied by Ukraine. The governor of Donetsk, Pavlo Kirilenko, said that these attacks happened at intervals of 40-40 minutes. He said nine five-storey buildings, residential houses, were damaged in the attack. The attack also damaged a hotel where foreign journalists used to stay. Apart from this, eateries, shops and administrative buildings were also damaged.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko said five people, including a local official of Ukraine’s state disaster service, were killed and 31 others wounded in the attack. Klimenko said the injured included 19 policemen, five rescuers and a child. The ‘Saspilne’ news site quoted the head of Pokrovsk’s city military administration, Sarhi Dobryak, as saying that seven people had been killed and 27 wounded. However, this contradictory report is yet to be confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of wreaking “sabotage” in eastern Ukraine in a statement released online. He also shared pictures of the damaged buildings along with his statement.
