A UN Security Council (UNSC) vote on increasing humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip and immediately ending the Israel-Hamas war has been delayed as talks were held to avoid US veto action on the two-month-old conflict.
At least 33 people were killed in Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip as Israel continued its offensive into the besieged Palestinian territory in response to the October 7 Hamas attack on the Jewish state. The Israeli military said it intercepted six rockets fired from Lebanon toward northern Israel and that two Israeli soldiers were wounded in the attack. A UN Security Council (UNSC) vote on increasing humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip and immediately ending the Israel-Hamas war has been delayed as talks were held to avoid US veto action on the two-month-old conflict.
The first vote was expected to take place on Monday afternoon, but was postponed as efforts were being made to get Washington to support or abstain from the resolution, The Times of Israel reported. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with some families held hostage by Hamas in Gaza amid reports of some progress in talks on a new agreement. The meeting took place against the backdrop of the Israeli army’s sudden killing last week of three hostages who had escaped from captivity.
Israel continues to launch missile attacks on Gaza, killing 20 people in Rafah near the Egyptian border and 13 more in the Jabaliya refugee camp in Gaza City, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. News agency Reuters reported that about 75 others were injured in Israeli attacks on the refugee camp.
