Seoul. At least 50 vehicles collided on a snow-covered highway near South Korea’s capital on Sunday night, killing one person and injuring several others. Hwang Tae-geon, a fire department official in Pocheon city, said at least 47 vehicles collided with each other on the Guri-Pocheon highway due to slippery road conditions. In the pictures, police officers and rescue workers with ‘stretchers’ can be seen running through the rubble, on the road. Several vehicles, including a passenger bus, were damaged at the front and rear.
Kim Dog-wan, an official with the North Gyeonggi Province Fire Department, said a man was taken to a hospital after suffering a heart attack, where doctors pronounced him dead. At least three occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured, while around 29 people received minor injuries. Hwang said the injured who did not need to be taken to the hospital were taken to their homes by rescue workers in buses. The accident occurred near a highway leading to Pocheon, about 40 km north of Seoul.
