The administration, which was in shock after the death of 46 people in a massive fire that broke out in several expensive restaurants on Bailey Road in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka recently, has now lost its sleep. After this, the administration has intensified the campaign against illegally running restaurants in the capital. Hotels which do not have fire extinguishing facilities are also being sealed. 92 employees have been detained in this regard.
According to Dhaka Tribune newspaper, employees including chefs are in panic due to the operation started after the Bailey Road tragedy. Worried about their livelihood. On Tuesday alone, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) sealed four restaurants in the Bailey Road area over fire safety issues. Apart from this, a building containing several restaurants in the Khilgaon area of the capital was also sealed on Tuesday on similar grounds.
Twenty-two restaurants were sealed in Dhanmondi on Monday during a joint raid by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Fire Service and Civil Defence, Dhaka South City Corporation and police. At least 92 hotel employees were sealed and detained in separate raids in Kamarangirchar, Mohammadpur and Wari areas of the capital between Monday night and Tuesday afternoon. 66 restaurants were sealed.
