It’s the last day. The court released its updated arguments calendar a week after agreeing to take up the case and giving the former president a boost by halting the criminal trial run by special counsel Jack Smith. It had earlier revealed which week it would hear the case but did not give an exact date.

The judge will review a lower court’s dismissal of Trump’s claim for immunity from prosecution because he was president when he took actions aimed at overturning President Joe Biden’s election victory. Trump, the first former President to face criminal charges, is poised to become the Republican nominee to challenge the Democratic president in the November 5 US election. His final rival for the nomination, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, dropped out of the race on Wednesday. The immunity case has again thrust the nation’s top judicial body into the fray, whose 6-3 conservative majority includes three Trump-appointed judges.

The Supreme Court on Monday gave Trump a major victory by ensuring that he will remain in the presidency. The justices barred states from disqualifying candidates for federal office under a constitutional provision linked to the insurrection, the justices barred Colorado from being voted off the ballot for its conduct related to the attack on the U.S. Capitol by its supporters on January 6, 2021. The decision was overturned.
