After rumors of ill health, South African President Ramaphosa said – ‘I am absolutely fine’

Johannesburg. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa denied reports circulating on social media that he had been admitted to hospital, saying he was “absolutely fine”. Ramaphosa said reports of his admission to the ICU had been “exaggerated” and that he was working from home on Sunday on the advice of authorities. Officials had advised them to stay in a safe environment at home for the busy week.

Ramaphosa made the comments on Monday at a wreath-laying ceremony in Limpopo province to honor members of the African National Congress (ANC) who sacrificed their lives in the anti-apartheid movement. The President’s clarification came after reports circulated on social media on Sunday that claimed he had been admitted to the ICU of the 1-Military Hospital in Pretoria. A fake account of Julius Malema, leader of the opposition party Economic Freedom Fighters, on the social media platform ‘X’ claimed that Ramaphosa had collapsed (after suffering a heart attack) before being admitted to hospital on Sunday.

Speaking at the event in Limpopo, Ramaphosa said his health was good. He said, “The news of my illness and my being in the ICU has been greatly exaggerated. I am absolutely fine and will continue to fight to ensure that our people actually have a prosperous and happy life.” He said, ”I held meetings and then I worked at home (on Sunday) on the instructions of the authorities. to continue. Officials said – We want you to be safe because the next six days are going to be very busy for you as President. He said, “I do not have any disease of any kind.” I didn’t have a heart attack. You can see this is not a fake Ramaphosa, there is no one here who is my lookalike.”

Ramaphosa confirmed that the ANC faces many challenges, with the country going to elections this year. Some analysts have predicted that the ANC could lose its majority for the first time since the first democratic elections in 1994. ANC leader Nelson Mandela came to power in 1994 after decades of minority white apartheid rule. Ramaphosa has insisted that the ANC will triumph on all issues and emerge stronger.
