Berlin. A US citizen has been arrested after allegedly attacking two female tourists near Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany. Officials gave this information on Thursday. He said that a tourist was killed in the attack. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the popular tourist destination near the Austrian border, police said. It said in a statement that prosecutors in nearby Kempten said the 30-year-old suspect had met the 21- and 22-year-old female tourists shortly before the incident.
The attack took place near the Marienbrücke, a bridge over a moat near the castle with a panoramic view of Neuschwanstein, the German news agency DPA reported. Police said the man attacked the 21-year-old woman. Following this, the 22-year-old woman moved to his aid, and the man pushed her down the steep slope. Prosecutors said it may have been an attempt at sexual assault.
He said the man also allegedly pushed a 21-year-old woman down the steep slope. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he died later that night. Police said the man had initially fled, but was arrested. He told that the person is also a tourist.
