Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations, told a private news channel that there was no question of imposing martial law.

After nearly four days of political turmoil triggered by the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, the army on Friday denied reports of martial law being imposed in the country. Army installations in Pakistan were targeted. The army issued a statement saying that it is very clear that General Asim Munir and the leadership of the army wholeheartedly support democracy and will continue to do so.

Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations, told a private news channel that there was no question of imposing martial law.

The army’s top spokesperson said that the army chief and the senior leadership of the army fully believe in democracy. Responding to reports of army officers resigning due to the ongoing chaos, the spokesperson also rubbished all claims. A spokesman for the media wing of the army said that no one in the armed forces has resigned. Major General Chaudhary said that despite all the efforts of internal miscreants and external enemies, the army is united under the leadership of Army Chief General Asim Munir.

Dreams of creating divisions within the army will remain dreams. Neither has anyone resigned nor disobeyed any orders, said an army spokesperson.
