Flood devastation after 3 years of drought, millions of people forced to leave the country

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): Ethiopia and Somalia, which faced drought for three years, have now been wreaked havoc due to severe floods. Till now dozens of people have died and more than three lakh people have been forced to flee.
A media report shows that in the first 25 days of March, 5 to 10 cm or 2 to 4 inches of rain was recorded in some parts of Ethiopia. Let me tell you, this time it rained more than normal.
A climate scientist said that rains usually last longer in Kenya. Later it rains in Ethiopia and Somalia. This year the rains started simultaneously. In the last two weeks of March, all the three countries received so much rain that there were floods.
The Shabelle and Juba rivers overflowed due to heavy rains in Ethiopia. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), houses, schools and health facilities were damaged after two rivers in southern Somalia and eastern Ethiopia broke dams.
The Horn of Africa has seen its worst drought in history for nearly three years. There was no rain in Ethiopia and Somalia from the year 2020 till last year. Because of this, about 1.4 million people left Somalia, while 3.8 million animals died due to drought. The Shabelle-Juba river basin has recorded the least rainfall this year since 1981.
According to information, more than 1,000 hectares of crops were destroyed by the rains in Ethiopia and Somalia. The only employment of the people of these countries is agriculture. Most of the crops in this region are rainfed.
