As part of the deal, Myanmar’s military leaders promised to allow the ASEAN special envoy to meet jailed leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Indonesian President Joko Widodo, taking over the ASEAN chairmanship, said last month that ASEAN countries will continue to contribute to the Indo-Pacific region to ensure peace and stability in the region and sustain economic growth. Widodo said, “We are facing the crisis of war this year with economic crisis, energy crisis and food crisis. ASEAN will continue to be essential and relevant to the people of the Indo-Pacific region.
