There was very low turnout in Bangladesh on Sunday amid a boycott against the current government in the 2024 elections. After the voting ended, Chief Election Commissioner Qazi Habibul Awal said that the total voting was 40 percent.
According to Bangladesh TV stations, Awami League has won 216 seats out of total 299 seats in the country, while independent candidates have won 52 seats and Jatiya Party has won 11 seats. However, the Election Commission has not yet announced the final results of all the seats.
While election day in Bangladesh was calm with no reports of disturbances, pre-poll protests saw at least 18 reports of arson, leading to four deaths. Authorities held the BNP responsible for the violence and accused it of election sabotage.
