The country’s largest opposition party ‘BNP’ would have considered boycotting the elections. The opposition candidate has registered a surprising victory over a dozen stalwarts including sitting members of the Awami League and the National Party. With only eight seats, the National Party is considered to be the official opposition party in the Parliament again. It is believed that only the victory of the opposition candidate can create a new dilemma in the politics of the country.
The role of opposition candidate in Parliament is not clear. Some opposition candidates may join the ruling Awami League, but most of the opposition candidates are considered to be playing a minor role. The ruling Awami League has won an absolute majority with 211 constituencies out of 299. Or the political scenario has changed significantly due to the unexpected victory of the opposition candidates, the question of which important role the opposition party will play in the Parliament or the answer to the question remains.
Awami League’s allies Rashtriya Samajtantrik Party and Workers’ Party have got one seat each. Kalyan Paksha, who was once a member of the BNP, is also a Jaga Jinkali. Despite the great power of the country’s politicians, BNP is still outside the Parliament.
