Bangladesh President urges India’s help to solve Rohingya crisis

He expressed hope that the move would significantly reduce the time and cost of freight movement in India’s northeastern states and West Bengal and boost regional connectivity across the Bay of Bengal.

He also said that the two countries had signed the ACMP (Chittagong and Mongla Port) agreement in 2018 and the deal would accelerate socio-economic development of both the countries along with increasing trade and commerce. The President expressed hope that the outstanding issues of the two countries, including the water distribution agreement, would soon be resolved through mutual cooperation and discussion. The High Commissioner said that India attaches great importance to relations with Bangladesh. “The connectivity between the two countries has improved a lot in the last decade and a half and as a result people of both the countries are taking advantage of it,” Verma said.

He said, “In the last 15 years, the contact between the two countries has increased manifold. People of both the countries are taking advantage of it.” The Indian envoy told Shahabuddin that India appreciated Bangladesh’s policy of “zero tolerance” to terrorism. He said that this has brought stability in the region which is contributing positively to the economic development of both the countries.
