London (Uttam Hindu News): Britain’s first Indian-origin PM Rishi Sunak shared his experiences of facing racism as a child, saying his parents sent him to learn so he could fit into the society. To be able to “speak properly” without any accent.

In an interview with ITV News’s Anushka Asthana, Sunak described the pain of hearing abuse directed at his younger siblings, saying racism “kind of stings and hurts.”

“You are conscious of being different… It’s hard not to be, and obviously, I experienced racism as a child,” he told Asthana.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the “sting” of racism in July last year when he visited the England vs Australia Ashes Test match at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Sunak, 43, who was born in a Hindu Punjabi family in Southampton, said his parents, especially his mother, wanted him and his siblings to mix. He didn’t want it to be a hindrance in any way, shape or form.

“One of the things my mother was very obsessive about was that we didn’t speak with the correct accent,” he said. She wanted us to try to add some extra drama.”

Describing any form of racism as “absolutely unacceptable”, he also noted Britain’s reputation among global leaders as a model of racial harmony and equality.

Addressing his first Conservative Party conference as party leader in Manchester in October 2023, Sunak used his example as proof that Britain is not a racist country and that the color of their skin is a “big deal” in the country. ” Not there.

Attending the ‘Ram Katha’ ceremony at Jesus College, Cambridge University last year, Sunak had said, “Being Prime Minister is a great honour, but it is not an easy job. “The difficult decisions to make, the difficult choices to face, and our beliefs give me the courage, strength and fortitude to do what is best for our country.”
