A day after Shehbaz Sharif was sworn in as Pakistan’s Prime Minister for the second time, jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on Tuesday announced that it will hold a nationwide protest against theft on March 10. There were allegations of large-scale rigging in the general elections held on February 8 in Pakistan. The result was a hung parliament, with independent candidates backed by Imran Khan’s party securing more than 90 seats in the 266-member National Assembly. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif secured 75 seats, while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led by former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto secured 54 seats. Additionally, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) won 17 seats.

After the talks, Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother Shehbaz Sharif assumed the role of Prime Minister on Monday. This came after the PML-N and PPP reached a consensus on power-sharing arrangements to establish a coalition government.
