British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy joined the initiative at a “lunch club” while opposition Labor leader Keir Starmer took part in the National Health Service’s (NHS) volunteer response programme. The Maharajah and Maharani have had a day of rest after the busy schedule of the weekend’s coronation ceremony. Other members of the royal family have been deputed to various volunteer programmes. According to the palace, Prince William and his wife have joined volunteers to restore a building called the “Upton Scout Hut” in Berkshire.
The “Upton Scout Hut” was built in 1982 and is used by various communities in the area. According to Buckingham Palace, the event, held on the final day of the long coronation ceremony, aims to bring together diverse communities and create a lasting volunteer legacy to mark the historic event held after a gap of 70 years. It is noteworthy that Charles III was officially coronated as the 40th King of Britain in a grand ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday.
