China Pakistan Economic Corridor: China’s CPEC project failed in Pakistan, now forced to send goods from port

In the year 2013, when China presented the proposal of CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor) under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), objection was raised by India at the same time. India had then said that it was against India’s sovereignty and China should refrain from its implementation. The most important part of CPEC is the China Pakistan Rail Service which will run from Gwadar coast in Balochistan to Kashgar in Xinjiang province of China. This 3,000 kilometer long railway line will connect China’s western province with the Arabian Sea and is of great importance from a strategic point of view.

China’s plan seems to be failing

This plan of China seems to be failing. China was very serious about this project. Now he is being forced to send his goods from Gwadar Port instead of the road being built under this project. According to media reports, on May 24, for the first time, a shipment of five containers was sent to China from this port. It will take 30 days for this shipment to reach China. Pakistan’s impoverishment and political instability and widespread corruption in military institutions are major reasons for the local people’s opposition to the project in Sindh province, making China’s dream a reality.

Why does India oppose it?

This area is adjacent to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Due to its geographical location, this area is very important from a strategic point of view for India. India’s objection is that a large part of this rail line and the highway built along it passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Since this is India’s land, it would be wrong to have any kind of construction on it without India’s consent. But China did not listen to India and ignored its objections on its instigation.
